A border made from circular arcs
Combine the two semicircular arcs with the two straight ends.
The figure shows a half ring made from two semicircles with the same centre, standing on the same straight line. The outer semicircle has a radius of 10 cm and the inner one a radius of 6 cm. The band between them is shaded. Find the perimeter of the shaded band. (Take π = 3.14.)
Show the step-by-step solution
- circumference = π × d
- outer diameter = 10 × 2 = 20
- inner diameter = 6 × 2 = 12
- outer arc = 1/2 × 3.14 × 20 = 31.4
- inner arc = 1/2 × 3.14 × 12 = 18.84
- one end = 10 - 6 = 4
- perimeter = 31.4 + 18.84 + 4 + 4 = 58.24
Ans: 58.24 cm
