A worked example

A rectangular tray has a volume of 1620 cm³ and a height of 12 cm. Its length is 6 cm more than its breadth. Find the length of the tray.

  1. length × breadth = 1620 ÷ 12 = 135
  2. length × breadth = 135 = 15 × 9
  3. length - breadth = 15 - 9 = 6
  4. length = 15 cm

The answer is 15 cm.

Use volume and height to find the area of the base.

A cuboid has a volume of 1200 cm³ and a height of 12 cm. Find the area of its base.
