Check whether the question asks for the number before or after the change.

A nursery displayed some figurines at an average price of $6 each. After a limited-edition figurine priced at $30 joined the display, the average price of the figurines became $10. How many figurines were in the display in the end?

surplus of the newcomer = 30 - 10 = 20
rise per figurine already there = 10 - 6 = 4
figurines at first = 20 ÷ 4 = 5
figurines in the end = 5 + 1 = 6 figurines
