Area and Perimeter
Find missing dimensions and calculate the area and perimeter of composite figures made from rectangles and squares.
Your child learns to tell the outside boundary from the surface inside, and to work backwards from a perimeter or an area to a missing side. Composite figures are split into rectangles for area, and their edges are slid out to an enclosing rectangle for perimeter. Identical pieces, borders and tiling then use the same lengths in new settings. Read the study guide →
About this chapter
These Primary 4 area and perimeter questions build on rectangle and square measurements. Your child finds a missing dimension, splits a composite figure into known shapes and uses identical pieces to recover lengths. Borders and tiling give these skills a practical setting. Across the chapter, the question determines whether to measure the covered surface or follow the outside boundary.
Practise by question type: finding a missing side, composite figures, identical rectangles, borders and tiling and p4 area and perimeter revision.
