Pie Charts

Read and interpret pie charts, compare the parts and connect each part with the whole set of data.

Your child reads a pie chart as one whole group cut into sectors, using the title and labels to match each sector to its category. A straight line through the centre marks a half, and a right angle marks a quarter. Your child then finds a missing sector, writes it as a fraction in simplest form, and works out the whole from one known part. Read the study guide →

About this chapter

A pie chart represents one complete collection, with each sector showing a part of it. Your child learns to read the categories and fractions, then relate a sector's count to the total. These subtopics develop the MOE Primary 4 outcome on interpreting pie charts: first reading the chart, then recovering the whole from one known part. Mixed practice brings chart information together with the number work each question requires.

Practise by question type: reading pie charts, pie chart totals and pie charts mixed practice.
