Fractions
Connect mixed numbers and improper fractions, find fractions of sets and add or subtract unlike fractions.
Your child learns that a fraction counts equal parts of one whole, and that the whole can be more than one bar, a set of things, or whatever is left. They change between mixed numbers and improper fractions, rename unlike fractions so the parts match before adding or subtracting, find a fraction of a set or of a remainder, and work back to the whole. About this chapter
Primary 4 fractions extend your child's work with equal parts to mixed numbers, improper fractions and fractions of a set. Following the MOE syllabus, the chapter also covers addition and subtraction with no more than two different denominators, each given denominator not exceeding 12. Further subtopics apply the idea of equal parts to a remainder and to finding an unknown whole. The mixed set asks your child to choose which relationship the question uses.
Practise by question type: mixed numbers and improper fractions, adding and subtracting unlike fractions, fraction of a set, fraction of the remainder, finding the whole from a fraction and p4 fractions mixed practice.
